These days if you feel deficient in any area, try to find an illness that loosely corresponds to your problem. You may be entitled to special training, or possibly a grant.
I know this because a genius friend (a first-class English lit graduate, fluent in several languages), let me in on his theory about his short-term memory ‘problem’. That is, the fact he is unable to remember every factoid in every one of the millions of files he is required to process at work.
He doesn’t blame technology (see above), drink or overwork. Instead, he has had himself declared dyslexic. Now he need not be embarrassed. If bosses criticise him they can be done for discrimination.
What’s your modern malady? I’m soft on officephobia. Workorexia, anyone?
